Have a smooth arrival at East Midlands Airport

Passport Control

When you arrive at East Midlands Airport, you'll need to pass through Passport Control before leaving the airport. Border Force carries out checks on all arriving passengers to help keep the UK border secure.

Speed up your journey with our new contactless eGates

East Midlands Airport is proud to be the first airport in the UK to launch the new contactless eGate technology.
The new technology uses advanced facial recognition to verify a passenger's identity. Simply walk up to the eGate and look at the camera. The system securely compares your live image with verified passport, travel and immigration records, allowing the gate to open automatically once all checks have been completed.

To help make your journey as effortless as possible:
Please remove hats, sunglasses and anything that covers your face before approaching the eGate, and follow the instructions displayed on the screen.

If you are travelling with children aged 8 years old and above, please ask them to go through the eGate after you.

To use an eGate, passengers must:
  • Have a biometric symbol on the cover of your passport
  • Are aged 8 or older and at least 120cm (3 ft 11 in) tall
  • Passengers aged 8 to 17 year olds must be accompanied by an adult
  • Be either:
    • A British citizen
    • A national of an EU country, Australia, Canada, Iceland, Japan, Liechtenstein, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland or the USA.
    • A member of the Registered Traveller Service
